Cansec's Zodiac Fingerprint Verification Reader
Cansec's revolutionary new Zodiac Fingerprint Reader is the culmination of over 15 years of experience in the design and development of leading edge Access Control products.
Zodiac's unique design allows it to easily replace any conventional access control reader in a matter of minutes with no change required to the existing access control panel or host software.
This is made possible by storing each user's fingerprint template in their contactless SmartCard or Dallas iButtonTM rather than storing them in the reader or a central database.
Where a user does not wish to replace their existing access control cards, a small stick-on BioPatch can be easily affixed to the existing card to provide the same functionality as the contactless SmartCard.
To gain access at a fingerprint reader, the user first presents their credential, the SmartCard, iButtonTM, or BioPatch. The reader extracts
the user's ID number and encrypted fingerprint template from the credential then prompts the user to place their finger on the scanner. The reader then compares the scanned fingerprint to
the template stored in the credential. If they match, the user's ID and System Code information is transmitted in Wiegand or ABA format to virtually any access control system manufactured.
Compatible with all other Access Control Systems
|
- Zodiac Readers support either Cansec's latest Smartcard or Dallas' iButton technologies
- Zodiac's unique design allows it to easily replace any conventional Access Control Reader (as part of an upgrade to existing reader installations) in a matter of minutes without any changes to the Host Software, Access Controller, ID Cardholder and above all existing wiring
- This is made possible by storing each user's fingerprint template in Cansec's contactless SmartCard or iButton rather than storing them in the Biometric Reader or a central database at the Host Computer
- Where a user does not wish to replace their existing access control cards, a small stick-on "BioPatch" can be easily affixed to the customer's existing ID card to provide the same functionality as the contactless SmartCard or iButton
- User capacity at each Zodiac Fingerprint Reader is now virtually unlimited

Ease of Enrollment
|
- Quick and easy enrollment is done only once at the Host Enrollment Station and written to the SmartCard or iButton Key using Zodiac's Enrollment Software
- In addition to the enhanced security provided by using a biometric reader, each Zodiac SmartCard and iButtonTM utilize a proprietary encoding technique which makes them virtually impossible to copy. Even if the binary data is extracted from a Zodiac credential and written into a blank one, the cloned credential will not operate
- To further enhance security of the Zodiac solution, the Enrollment Software cannot be run without a non-duplicable Software Access Card or Key, thus preventing unauthorized duplication of the software. In addition, each copy of Enrollment Software is designed to work only with the user credentials for a single specified site. This prevents Enrollment Software from one site being used to encode User ID cards/keys from another site
- User F/P Template along with an associated unique ID Number can be re-encoded in SmartCards and iButton Keys multiple times making replacement easy and cost effective for other personnel

Wiegand Line Encryption - ENHANCED SECURITY (optional)
|
- Zodiac is the first product of its kind to address this industry wide vulnerability inherent in virtually all biometric access control products
- Zodiac can be placed into Secure Transmission Mode (STM). When STM is enabled (via a DIP switch inside the reader), Wiegand data sent to the access control system is encrypted and sent over the standard Wiegand data lines to an optional Secure Transmission Authentication Receiver (STAR) module located inside the access control panel
- The STAR module decrypts the data and relays it to the access control system in "clear Wiegand" format. The use of Secure Transmission Mode prevents the Zodiac Reader from being defeated by replacing it with another conventional Wiegand reader such as a Prox reader or Wiegand emulating keypad. With STM enabled, such attempts will fail as the resulting "clear Wiegand" data generated by the replacement device will be rejected by the STAR module
|
Zodiac also works with non-biometric Proximity and iButtonTM Readers
|
- For those doors that do not require biometric authentication, a low cost proximity type Smartcard Reader - or - iButton Reader is also available
- These Readers will further compliment the design integrity of the Access Control System as well as operate seamlessly with the Zodiac Smartcard or iButton ID credentials

Cansec's SmartFob Wireless Access Control
Smartfob is a click-operated RF transmitter that provides up to 100 feet of read range providing end user
convenience as well as personal security. Cansec uses wireless, omnidirectional RF technology that does not need to
be aimed at a receiver or require direct line of site. Smartfob has two buttons which can be factory programmed for individual
functionality. The standard programming enables the use of one button for “IN” use and the other button for
“OUT” use. Because Smartfob Receivers are equipped with two distinct Wiegand outputs, only one receiver is required
for IN/OUT applications where both entrances/exits are in close proximity to one another.
Cansec’s Smartfob transmitter can be optionally fitted with a proximity module for use on HID proximity readers. This elimi-nates
the need for end users to carry a separate credential for traditional door access control.
Cansec's CanProx Proximity Reader

The CanProx Proximity Card Reader sets a new standard in the access control industry with features such as VAL (Variable Audio Level), DAT (Dual Audio Tone), and ARM (Advanced Reader Monitoring).
CanProx is compatible with all HID credentials and provides up to 3 inches of read range using the ProxCard ® II proximity access card.
The VAL feature allows the volume of CanProx to be field adjusted low or OFF for office environments or high for manufacturing or other noisy areas. DAT generates a distinct secondary tone (separate from VAL) on Door Held Open and Forced Entry alarm conditions.
When enabled, the reader will beep according to the volume set by the VAL feature on regular card reads. On alarm conditions, the reader will emit a distinct, full volume tone until the condition is cleared.
When used with a Cansec access control panel, the ARM option provides a continuous heartbeat signal that lets the controller know that the reader is alive and well. CanProx is the first reader of its kind to offer a supervision option.
Cansec's RT100 Series iButton Readers
Cansec pioneered the development of iButtonTM technology for use in access control applications. Lasting durability and reliability are provided by solid construction with a 1/4" thick brushed anodized aluminum face plate and a stainless steel read head. A Bi-Colour LED and Sonalert provide users with both visual and audible signals of access being granted or denied.
iButtonTM Access Keys consist of a hermetically sealed stainless steel disk, mounted on an anodized aluminum key fob. An iButtonTM Access Key is read at an RT100 Series reader by simply touching it to the ergonomically designed read head.
RT100 Series iButtonTM Readers and keys are also available with standard 26 bit Wiegand output for use with most other access control systems. Available in Mullion and Wall mount styles.
Cansec International carries the complete range of card reader products from the following manufacturers:
